Littlehead

Littlehead

Littlehead was supposed to be named Porkchop, but her head was so small we began calling her Littlehead as a joke. Soon, she began responding to this name and we decided to keep it. She is as wild as a coyote and loves to run FAST. If you don’t put her in lead, she’ll let you know how upset she is by standing out in front of the team at the end of a run until every last dog is put away. She is the hero of Kristin’s 2015 Yukon Quest team and crossed the finish line in lead. Sister of T-Bone and Kabob.

Hank is a standout among the Country Legends litter. Since his very first time in harness, he has been calm, mature and enthusiastic in team. He never looks back and really shone during the mid-distance races and two big expeditions we completed last year. He is his dad Solo’s doppelganger, and when the two of them run side by side, it is a real treat to watch. Buck

Buck has an old soul for such a young dog. He is the perfect mix between Solo (his dad) and T-Bone (his uncle). In other words, this is a dreamy dog! His sweetness combined with his absolute hate of stopping (his high-pitched bark is the first thing to be heard when a run hasn’t been long enough) made him an invaluable addition to Kristin’s 2015 Yukon Quest team. She has her mother’s sweetness and her father’s intensity. She confidently trotted across the finish line of her first race – the 2015 Copper Basin 300 – in lead! She turned right around to finish the 2015 Yukon Quest with her tail wagging. Sibling to Hank, Tex, Kitty, Dolly, Patsy and Buck.

Kitty

Kitty

Kitty is something of a miracle. At four months old, she broke her paw and had to be in an adorable pink (then purple) cast for two months. Looking at her now, you can’t even tell! She is as smoothly gaited and crazy to run as the rest of her siblings. Kitty’s favorite trick is crawling all the way up you until she is perched on your shoulder like a little parrot. We love this little gal and were so impressed with her leading capabilities during the 2015 Arctic expedition.

Her confidence will continue to grow in the company of resident matriarchs Littlehead and Kabob, but her all-time favorite companion is her half-sister Piper. Her parents, Basin and Celia, were on the yearling team we trained for Wild and Free Mushing in 2012, and led the way to a Yukon Quest victory for Wild and Free in 2015.

In Memoriam.

Moose

Memorial “Moose” Sponsorship

Moose was the biggest person in our lives in every way. Inside our tiny cabin, he comprised at least a quarter of the viewshed at all times. He was the unavoidable spokesperson to all who visited our kennel. He was the insistent smacker of keyboards when we spent too much time on the computer. The gargantuan surveyor of countertops. The enormous enthusiast of all foods, both dog and human (most especially baking ingredients). He was the lover of all things musical, whether it was Andy’s Saturday morning dogyard operas or the deafening booming of a bass drum during band practice. When we started our kennel in 2011, we were looking for inspiration for our kennel name. We wanted to stand out from other kennels with an attention-grabbing name, but we also wanted it to be something meaningful. We didn’t have to look too far! Moose, our very first sled dog, was the reason we got into this lifestyle in the first place. His absence from our lives is felt keenly every day, but his namesake will live on in every dog, every mile, every race and every accomplishment of Hey Moose! Kennel. To honor Moose, this is our biggest individual dog sponsorship.

Maximus

Maximus was the handsomest guy around, period. Kristin took him in when he was a wild dog back in Montana, & though certain of those tendencies lingered, he was the sweetest & most honest dog in the brood. If you had bacon on your person, had been around bacon at any point in the last three days, or were even thinking about bacon, Maximus would be by your side. Our hearts remain full for this guy.
